The 1990 British Open programme featured an article about the Martin family. This profile came a year before Rodney won the World Open and three years before Michelle won the first of her three.

When Eustace Miles wrote his book – the very first squash-specific one – in 1901, it was described as ‘a practical handbook to English squash-rackets and American squash-tennis’. The Library has reproduced a few photos to illustrate how teaching was done before evolving into the ‘open skills’ system that is used today.

Shortly before he won the British Amateur in 1938 after F D Amr Bey’s run of six titles, Kenneth Gandar- Dower wrote this article giving his view of the future........
