Pegged Ranking Introduced

In 2003 WISPA (the then separate women’s tour) introduced Pegged Ranking, a means of players who had suffered a long-term injury or other medical condition, including pregnancy, keeping most of their final ranking points before the 6 – 18 months they were sidelined.

This not only helped the player but also the integrity of draws so that seeds were not drawn against returning high ranked players initially.

This innovation was taken up by the men’s tour shortly afterwards.
