STORY

While squash looks forward, new generations enjoy our great sport, and new champions are crowned on the latest club and showcourts, we have a long heritage too. One that stretches back to the 1850’s.

The World Squash Library has been initiated as an independent ‘not-for-profit’ organisation to ensure that the books, magazines, championship programmes and other information can be brought together in one place to be freely available for current players, media, Federations, students – anybody who wants information on the long or near past. Equally importantly for future generations too.

This can be via Email (using the Email address, below), through the items that will be digitalised, or even in person.

Spotlights and features will be added to the site regularly.

WSL can never be complete, but over the coming years we will be getting as close as possible!

Nottingham's Centre of Excellence 1982

In 1982, journalist Rex Bellamy reported on the squash scene in Nottingham, England, which had become an elite player base for Australian and British players including Chris Dittmar, Glen Brumby, Gawain Briars, Lisa Opie, Martine Le Moignan and a number of others that he lists.

Heather McKay profile 1963

Heather McKay (nee Blundell) was profiled having just reached her second British Open final in 1963. The article by Barry Ward in British Lawn Tennis & Squash magazine is not just insight into the nascent champion, but Australian squash at that time too.
